About Me
I am a trained Gestalt counsellor, and a fully registered accredited member of BACP. I follow the ethical guidelines set out by the BACP: BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
I started my training at The Gestalt Centre in London and completed a certificate in Humanistic Counselling, and a Diploma in Professional Development. I then continued my training at The Albany Centre where I completed a Professional Diploma in Gestalt Counselling.
I have trained in trauma recovery therapy and I am a therapy lead in a trauma organisation supporting clients who have experienced sexual abuse, sexual assaults, rape, domestic violence, co-ercive control and relational trauma.
I have trained in offering trauma recovery therapy to clients with addiction and I have also trained in working with children and young people that have experienced sexual abuse, rape and home life violence.
I have worked at Watford Women’s Centre as a volunteer counsellor supporting women in and out of abusive relationships, depression and historical sexual abuse. I have also volunteered at other counselling services to support clients with depression, stress and relationship breakdowns.
Previous to training as a counsellor I spent 15 years in corporate marketing and this has enabled me to directly experience work stresses allowing me to empathise with those clients that find it difficult to cope at work.
How I Work
I believe in emotional wellbeing and that it is a natural response to feel what you are feeling if something has happened or is happening in your life right now or in the past. As a Gestalt counsellor I am a fellow traveller and will walk with you on your journey. You are not alone in the counselling process; I am always right beside you. I provide a safe and confidential space for you to talk and be heard.
I work with all age groups, backgrounds, ethnicity and clients with a corporate background. I work with children and adults from the ages of 5 years old upwards.
Why choose Gestalt Counselling?
Gestalt counselling focuses on raising your awareness in order to gain a better understanding of how your emotional and physical needs are connected. It allows you to be aware of your internal self which is the key to understanding why you react and behave in certain ways.
As a Gestalt counsellor I look at you as a whole person, not just the words you say. Together we seek to understand your bodily senses, feelings, thoughts and behaviours. The aim is for us to work together to free the you from the blocks that inhibit how you walk in the world.
History of Gestalt
Gestalt therapy is a psychotherapy practice that originated in Germany in the 1930s. Devised by psychoanalysts Fritz Perls and his wife Laura. Accordingly Gestalt incorporates notions from many disciplines. These include body psychotherapy, humanistic and existential philosophies, Gestalt psychology and Eastern spiritual practices.
Gestalt therapy fosters personal growth through the development of self-awareness and self-support, enabling creative contact with people and with the environment we live in. Counsellor and client work together at forming a trusting relationship, which is central to the healing process.
Gestalt encourages the exploration of the client’s embodied responses, perceptions, feelings and actions. Within a safe environment, Gestalt helps the client experiment with finding more satisfying ways of being, behaving and belonging.
At times most people experience obstacles that restrict them from living well and functioning fully. Gestalt seeks to dissolve these blocks enabling the client’s energetic, authentic self to emerge as they move freely through life.
